Dark Season 2 does not simply continue the story, it reshapes everything we thought we understood about time, causality, and destiny.

Season 2 expands the time loop across four major eras, 1921, 1953, 1987, and 2020, revealing how every character’s actions are both the cause and the consequence of the apocalypse that will destroy Winden.
This timeline follows the events in the order they occur, not the order they are shown.
1921 – The Birth of Sic Mundus
In 1921, Winden is ruled by Adam, the future version of Jonas Kahnwald. Operating from the underground lair beneath the church, Adam leads Sic Mundus, a secret society dedicated to preserving the time loop.
Young Noah is recruited and begins his lifelong mission of ensuring events unfold exactly as they must. Adam reveals his belief that the cycle can only be broken through total destruction, the apocalypse itself is, in his mind, the key to freedom.
1953-1954 – Claudia Begins to Understand
In the early 1950s, Claudia Tiedemann inherits the nuclear power plant. Her encounters with time travelers, including her future self — place her at the center of the growing conflict between preserving and breaking the cycle.
Claudia learns that the mysterious substance known as the God Particle is not merely a byproduct of time travel, but the engine that sustains the loop.
Her motivation becomes clear: protect Regina, even if it means sacrificing everything else.
1987 – The Middle of the Knot
1987 becomes the emotional and narrative center of the season.
Ulrich, imprisoned for the murder of Helge, realizes he is trapped by time itself.
Mikkel, now Michael Kahnwald, continues living the life that will eventually lead to Jonas’s birth and his own suicide.
Jonas, traveling between eras, begins to understand the horrifying truth:
his attempts to change events are the very actions that cause them.
2020 – The Approach of the Apocalypse
In 2020, the town collapses toward catastrophe.
Clausen’s investigation into the power plant uncovers radioactive waste connected to the God Particle.
Charlotte and Elisabeth discover their impossible family relationship, confirming that the knot of time is far more complex than anyone imagined.
As the date of the apocalypse approaches, June 27, 2020, every character is maneuvered into their final positions.
The Moment of Collapse
On June 27:
- Jonas attempts to stop the event.
- Claudia tries to redirect its consequences.
- Adam allows it to happen.
- Martha is killed in front of Jonas.
- The God Particle detonates.
- Winden is consumed by the apocalypse.
At the last second, an alternate version of Martha appears and saves Jonas, revealing the existence of another world, and that the cycle is far larger than anyone believed.
Why the Season 2 Timeline Matters
Season 2 establishes that:
- There is no linear time.
- No single villain.
- No simple escape.
Every character is both victim and architect of the apocalypse.
