The Origin World Explained

The Origin World is the only real world in Dark.

Everything else is a consequence of one man’s attempt to undo grief.

What the Origin World Is

The Origin World is the original, unbroken reality, a world where time flows normally and no one travels through it.

There is no Adam’s world.
There is no Eva’s world.
There is no knot.

There is only the world before the accident.

How the Split Happens

H. G. Tannhaus loses his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter in a car accident.

Desperate to save them, he attempts to build a machine that can reverse time.

Instead, he fractures reality.

The universe splits into two mirrored worlds:

  • Adam’s world
  • Eva’s world

These two worlds exist only because the Origin World was broken.

Why the Loop Exists

The loop is not a natural phenomenon.

It is the universe trying to stabilize itself after being torn apart.

Every paradox, every repetition, every tragedy exists to preserve the impossible structure created by Tannhaus’s machine.

Why Jonas and Martha Must Go There

Jonas and Martha are born from the split.

They cannot exist in the Origin World.

That is why only they can fix it.

When they prevent the accident, the split never occurs, and the loop dissolves.

What Happens After the Loop Ends

When the Origin World is restored:

  • the two looped worlds vanish,
  • all their characters disappear,
  • and only the true timeline remains.

The universe heals itself.
